Creation date: 22 June 2010

The following International Cooperation Special Sessions will take place at the ITS World Congress in Busan:

SS 31 International Challenges of Transport Planning and Traveller Information Services in Fast Developing Megacities
Wednesday, 27 October, 16:00 – 17:30
Organizer
  • Yanying Li, Project Manager, ERTICO - ITS Europe

Description of the Session
Megacities, particularly those in developing countries with rapid economic growth, face ever increasing demands on their transport systems. To be able to deliver and implement sustainable planning of infrastructure and public transport services, a great amount of data on the usage of transport network and public transport is required. The challenge is to integrate road traffic data, environmental data and usage of public transport to support sustainable long-term planning and public transport management. Moreover, a journey in a megacity might involve different transport modes. Multi-modal journey planning and seamless traveller information services require data exchange and sharing between different transport authorities. The challenge is to provide adaptable data exchange interfaces to connect a variety of entities needed for multi-modal traveller information services. In this session, transport planners, service providers and researchers are invited to present solutions and successful practices in megacities in China and Brazil.

SS 63 Intelligent Management of Transport Systems for Large Events
Friday 29 October, 09:00 – 10:30
Organizer
  • Irina Silva, Project Support Manager, ERTICO - ITS Europe

Description of the Session
Large events generate additional travel demands and have significant impacts on transport systems in the host cities and regions. Large numbers of people arrive in the host cities and then travel to the same destination in the cities over a short time. Majority of travelers will rely on public transport rather than private cars while the travelers may not be familiar with the local transport systems and at most cases they may not understand the local languages. Therefore, improvement of public transport and provision of special transports and information services for visitors are common approaches to address the challenge. The host cities may take the chances to improve their public transport and information services. This session gathers speakers from around the world who are involved with transport services for large events such as World Football Cup 2010, Winter Olympic Games 2014 and Summer Olympic Games 2016.
